Architecturally designed two-storey granny flat
Our #BackyardInspiration was in full force when we saw this great article on a two-storey granny flat, featured on Domain.
Many people don’t realise the flexibility offered by granny flats, including that you can have a two-storey granny flat and still be working with NSW Government guidelines.
We love the opener of the article –
“The term ‘granny flat’ is such a misnomer, isn’t it? A belittling descriptor, in fact, for spaces increasingly synonymous with dynamic architecture; for spaces servicing a growing, diverse and critical range of purposes; for humble places now speaking loudly of recent trends in residential occupation – of a return to intergenerational living, of increased opportunities to work from home, of a desire for joyous small footprint retreats for work, play, study, and life.”
Since the establishment of Backyard Grannys we have worked hard to provide individual solutions for our clients, at reasonable prices. We have completed a number of two-storey granny flats (see an example here) in Newcastle and have a another one under construction. We also have a Sydney two-storey granny flat in the design stage right now.
As specialist granny flat builders in Newcastle, Sydney and the Central Coast we have the experience and expertise to create the right solution for each of our clients. Whether it is for an investment property, for owner-occupied use, strange shaped blocks or it has a rear lane access we help our clients find the best solution for their circumstances.
The final quote in the Domain article really resonated with us, as it is exactly how we approach granny flats.
“Granny flats don’t need to be seen as second-rate accommodation, or as a second-rate caravan out the back,” Kerry says. “They can be designed to maintain a contemporary pattern of living.”
