Alex is passionate about his community, affordable housing and his team
With over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry, Alex is both the Founder and Managing Director of Backyard Grannys.
Since completing a Bachelor of Construction Management at the University of Newcastle, Alex has worked in a wide range of Project Management roles in both Sydney and Newcastle. During this time, Alex developed a strong background in the commercial construction sector – working on a diverse scope of projects including fit outs, major club refurbishment and construction projects, retirement villages and nursing homes.
Alex started Backyard Grannys in 2011, after identifying a growing market demand for secondary residential dwellings. Having built over 1500 granny flats since then, Backyard Grannys is now the leading granny flat builder in Newcastle, the hunter Region and the Central Coast.
In 2014, Alex won the ‘Young Entrepreneur Award’ with the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards and in 2015 received the Hunter Business Chamber ‘Young Business Person of the Year’ Merit Award.
Born and bred in Newcastle, Alex is passionate about his local community and truly believes in the need for affordable housing solutions. He enjoys developing his team and creating an enjoyable work culture, always with the goal to create quality projects and outcomes for our Backyard Grannys clients.
